Bali in Depth, with Lombok & Yogyakarta

In addition to stays in several areas of Bali, this tour includes visits to the island of Lombok and Yogyakarta in Central Java. You'll visit the most important cultural sites and other attractions on all three islands.


 

Day 1 Upon arrival in Yogyakarta you'll be met and transferred to your hotel located in the city or in the countryside outside town. Four nights accommodations.

Day 1 Morning at leisure. This afternoon's city tour includes the Sultan's Palace, Water Castle, and silver and batik home industries.

Day 3 Very early this morning you'll depart your hotel for Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple complex. Sunrise will be from atop Dagi Hill, after which you'll tour the temple complex. Continue to Mendut and Pawon temples. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 4 Today's full day Grand Prambanan tour includes Sambisari, Kalasan, Sari, Plaosan and Banyunibo temples, and the ruined palace of Ratu Boko.

Day 5 Transfer to the Yogyakarta airport. Upon arrival in Bali you'll be met and transferred to your hotel located in Ubud. Five nights accommodations in the Ubud area.

Day 6 Today's full day excursion includes a performance of the Barong & Kris dance and visits to Kintamani, Tampaksiring holy spring temple and the temples of Bangli.

Day 7 Today's full day excursion takes you to eastern Bali. You'll visit Karangasem Palace, the fishing village of Kusamba, Bat Cave temple, Tenganan traditional village, Tirta Gangga water garden and an ikat (traditional weaving) factory in Sidemen village. This evening attend a performance of the primitive Kecak dance.

Day 8 This morning you'll visit several fine arts galleries and ARMA museum. You'll also visit Setia Darma House of Mask and Puppets, with a stop to see the rice terraces at Tegalalang. The afternoon is at leisure to explore Ubud on your own.

Day 9 Morning visit to the Bird Park and Kemenuh Butterfly Park. In the afternoon you'll visit a dukun (Balinese healer), where you'll learn about healing with traditional methods. In the late afternoon visit Petulu to see the white herons return to roost. In the evening attend a performance of the Legong dance.

Day 10 Transfer to the north of Bali. Along the way you'll visit a remote mountain village to experience rural life. Stop an a village elementary school (subject to school being in session) before visiting a farmer in the fields, where you can observe or participate in traditional farming. Continue to the village compound for a lesson in how to make a temple offering and a woven coconut leaf hat. You'll then see a demonstration, have a short lesson, and participate in playing the instruments of the village gamelan orchestra. Lunch is included in the village compound. Before arriving at your hotel, a stop will be made at Pulaki monkey temple. Two nights accommodations in Pemuteran.

Day 11 Morning snorkel excursion to Menjangan Island including equipment, private boat and lunch. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 12 Transfer to your southern area beach resort following a visit the Munduk countryside, an area with spectacular terraced rice fields. You'll visit the spice, fruit and flower market at Candi Kuning, Lake Beratan with Ulun Danu Temple and Munduk Waterfall where you'll take a short hike to reach the falls. In Munduk village you'll have a cooking lesson at Puri Lumbung, a small hotel that overlooks the terraced rice fields. Four nights accommodations at Canggu Beach, Seminyak Beach or Sanur Beach.

Day 13 Day at leisure to enjoy the beach.

Day 14 This morning you'll visit the Kumbasari & Badung traditional markets in Denpasar. This is where the locals shop. There are flowers, spices, vegetables, homewares, clothing, fabrics for sale. You'll also visit the gold shops and fabric shops. In addition you'll visit the Bali Art Center and/or Bali Museum. This afternoon visit Royal Temple Taman Ayun, Alas Kedaton holy monkey forest and Tanah Lot sea temple where you'll stay until sunset.

Day 15 Day at leisure to enjoy the beach.

Day 16 Transfer to Serangan harbor where you'll board the Blue Water Express boat that will take you to Lombok. Upon arrival at Bangsal harbor in northwest Lombok, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel for a five night stay.

Day 17 Today's full day excrusion takes you to Banyumulek pottery village; Sukarara village, where traditional songkat cloth is hand woven with gold and silver thread; Rambitan, a typical Sasak village where the houses and rice-storage buildings are still constructed with wood, bamboo and thatching; and Kuta beach and Tanjung Ann, which are known for turquoise seas and activities such as wind-surfing, surfing and swimming.

Day 18 Day at leisure to enjoy the beach.

Day 19 Today's full day Gili Islands tour starts with a boat ride to Gili Trawangan, best known for its excellent shallow water reef snorkeling. Continue to the blue coral island of Gili Meno. The last stop is Gili Air, which also has excellent snorkeling, as well as an interesting fishing settlement. You'll travel via private speedboat. A box lunch is included.

Day 20 This morning's excursion takes you to Mayura, the royal floating palace of the former kingdom; Pura Meru temple; Bertais market (the largest in Lombok); Narmada, the summer palace of the former King Anak Agung Gede Ngurah; and Lingsar temple (the oldest temple in Lombok) which is used as a place of worship by both Hindus and Moslems. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 21 Transfer to Bangsal harbor where you'll catch the Blue Water Express boat back to Bali. Upon arrival you'll be met and transferred to the Bali airport. Alternatively, transfer from your hotel to the Lombok airport.

Prices are per person, based on two people traveling together on a double occupancy basis. Reduced rates are available for groups of five or more people. Prices are based upon a cash discount. Prices are approximate and are subject to change until arrangements have been confirmed. Prices are quoted and payable in U.S. dollars. Seasonal surcharges apply during high season and surcharges appy in Yogyakarta during Ramadan.
