KALIMANTAN (BORNEO) - JUNGLE ADVENTURES

ORANGUTANS CAMP LEAKEY/RIMBA LODGE OPTION #1

Day 1 Upon arrival at the Pangkalan Bun airport you'll be met and transferred to Kumai, where you'll board your private boat. Explore the river, looking for monkeys along the banks. Meals will be provided on board. Your crew includes a boatman, cook and expert guide. Overnight on board your boat or in an air-conditioned room at Rimba Lodge.

Day 2 This morning you'll travel upstream to Camp Leaky where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rain forest. You'll also visit the orangutan rehabilitation center and feeding station. With your guide and forest rangers you'll trek into the rain forest to look for a variety of wildlife.

Day 3 Transfer to the Pangkalan Bun airport.

Day 4 Today you have the option of further exploration in the rain forest. Or, you can visit Pasalat to see the reforestation project. Hike in the jungle before traveling by boat to Tanjung Harapan village to see the Malayan and Semi Dayak settlements at the National Park.

Day 5 Transfer to the Pangkalanbun airport.

ORANGUTANS SAMBOJA OPTION #1

Day 1 Upon arrival at the Balikapapan airport you'll be met and transferred to Samboja Lodge. In the late afternoon you'll have an opportunity to observe the orangutans around the lodge.

Day 2 This morning you'll do some soft trekking and will plant fruit trees, which will eventually supply food to the orangutans. You'll then observe the orangutans and sun bears around the lodge. This survival foundation is a rehabilitation center. In the afternoon you'll drive to Bukit Bangkiray for rainforest jungle trekking and the Canopy Bridge. Time permitting you'll return via canoe, through an area where you may see proboscis monkeys.

Day 3 Early morning trekking around the lodge, before transferring to the airport.

ORANGUTANS SAMBOJA OPTION #2

Day 1 Upon arrival at the Balikapapan airport you'll be met and transferred to Samboja Lodge. In the late afternoon you'll have an opportunity to observe the orangutans around the lodge.

Day 2 This morning you'll do some soft trekking and will plant fruit trees, which will eventually supply food to the orangutans. You'll then observe the orangutans and sun bears around the lodge. This survival foundation is a rehabilitation center. In the afternoon you'll drive to Bukit Bangkiray for rainforest jungle trekking and the Canopy Bridge. Day 3 Travel to Sungai Wain where you'll begin your six hour trek to observe the real jungle of Borneo. This area of conservation forest (since 1938) is home to orangutans, sun bears and a large variety of exotic birds. Overnight at a local house near the rainforest.

Day 4 Transfer to the airport.

ORANGUTANS SAMBOJA OPTION #3

Day 1 Upon arrival at Balikpapan airport you'll be met and transferred to Loa Janan where you'll board your houseboat.

Day 2 This morning you'll arrive at Muara Muntai village where you'll observe local life. Continue by motorized canoe, across Jempang Lake, to the homeland of the Dayak Benuaq tribe. A welcome ceremony will be held by the chief of the Dayak, followed by traditional dances. At the village you'll see the longhouses and totem poles of the Dayak. Return to Muara Muntai where you'll see monkeys, birds and snakes along the Ohong River. Continue, on your houseboat, to Tenggarong.

Day 3 On arrival in Tenggarong you'll visit the local market, royal cemetery and Sultan's Kutai Kertanegara collection. Continue downstream to Samboja Lodge where you'll visit the orangutan rehabilitation center. Observe orangutans and sun bears.

Day 4 Early morning trekking around the lodge, before transferring to the airport.

MAHAKAM RIVER, ORANGUTAN & DAYAK ADVENTURE OPTION #2

Day 1 Upon arrival at Balikpapan airport you'll be met and transferred to Loa Janan where you'll board your houseboat.

MAHAKAM RIVER, ORANGUTAN & DAYAK ADVENTURE OPTION #3

Day 4 Observe orangutans and sun bears around the lodge before traveling to the Bangkirai Hills for your canopy bridge adventure. Continue by canoe on the Black River to look for proboscis monkeys along the river.

Day 5 Drive to Sungai Wain where you'll begin your six hour trek into deeper jungle. This is a conservation area for orangutans, sun bears and various species of birds. Following your trek you'll transfer to your hotel in Balikpapan.

Day 5 Transfer to the airport.

DAYAK TRIBE AND MAHAKAM RIVER ADVENTURE

Day 1 Transfer from the Balikpapan airport to Loa Janan where you'll board the houseboat that will take you up the Mahakam River to Kutai country.

Day 2 This morning you'll arrive at Muara Muntai village where you'll observe local life. Continue by motorized canoe across Jempang Lake, to the homeland of the Dayak Benuaq tribe. A welcome ceremony will be held by the chief of the Dayak, followed by traditional dances. At the village you'll see the longhouses and totem poles of the Dayak. Return to Muara Muntai where you'll look for monkeys, birds and snakes along the Ohong River. Continue, on your houseboat, to Melak.

Day 3 Upon arrival this morning in Melak you'll visit the local market and will then drive to Eheng village to see the longhouse of the Dayak Tanjung Benuaq people. One big longhouse is home to more than 100 people. Villagers still make traditional handicrafts such as rattan baskets and statues. Return to your houseboat and travel on a small river to visit the Gemuruh. In the late afternoon cruise downriver towards Tenggarong.

Day 4 Arrive at Tenggarong and visit the Mulawarman Museum to see the Sultan's Kutai Kertanegara collections. This is the oldest kingdom in Indonesia. Return to Balikpapapn and transfer to the airport.


SULAWESI - MYSTERIOUS TORAJA

FIVE DAY/FOUR NIGHT OPTION #1

Day 1 Upon arrival at Makassar you'll be met and taken on a city tour of Fort Rotterdam, Bugis sailboat harbor and Losari Beach. Overnight in Makassar.

Day 2 Depart for Tana Toraja via Pare-Pare. Along the way you'll see traditional Buginese villages with their stilt houses. Continue through the beautifully scenic mountains with a stop at Puncak Lakawan, to see the spectacular view of Mt. Kabobong, before arriving at Toraja.

Day 3 Today's full day Tana Toraja excursion includes the cliff graves at Lemo, the ancient graves at Londa, Ke'te Kesu traditional village - a World Heritage site that's famous for its woodcarvings, and the market at Rantepao.

Day 4 Today's full day excursion takes you to Pallawa to see the "Tongkonan" Toraja houses. Continue to Batutumonga for a spectacular view of Rantepao valley. You'll then take a soft trek to traditional villages with their coffee, vanilla and clove plantations.

Day 5 Return to Makassar, via Pare-Pare. Transfer to the airport.

FIVE DAY/FOUR NIGHT OPTION #2

Day 1 Early departure from the Makassar airport to Tana Toraja, via Pare-Pare. Along the way you'll see traditional Buginese villages with their stilt houses. Continue through the beautifully scenic mountains with a stop at Puncak Lakawan, to see the spectacular view of Mt. Kabobong, before arriving at Toraja.

Day 2 Today's full day Tana Toraja excursion includes the cliff graves at Lemo, Tampangallo, an ancient natural grave in a cave, the baby tree graves at Kambira, Marante and Naggala Torajan villages and Ke'te Kesu, a traditional village that's a World Heritage Site.

Day 3 Today's full day excursion visits Bori' with its ancient megalith stones, Tinobayo Highland for a view over the rice terraces and villages, Batutumonga and Rantepao town. Continue to Lokomata to see graves on a giant megalith stone and then do soft trekking from Pana to Tikala, passing through several villages. Later visit Pallawa and Sa'dan woodcarving and weaving centers.

Day 4 This morning you'll drive into the mountains. After a 40 minute walk through villages and rice fields you'll reach the starting point for your river rafting adventure. The whitewater rafting excursion lasts about three to four hours, during which you may see large butterflies, birds and leguans (large monitor lizards). Lunch along the river bank in this highly scenic and remote area.

Day 5 Transfer to the Makassar airport following a stop at Pare-Pare.

FIVE DAY/FOUR NIGHT OPTION #3

Day 1 Upon arrival at Makassar you'll be met and taken on a city tour of Ujung Pandang and Fort Rotterdam, Bugis sailboat harbor and Losari Beach. You'll then drive to Sengkang via Bugis village. Overnight in Sengkang.

Day 2 Depart for Tana Toraja with stops at Lake Tempe, where you'll see traditional fishermen, and Palopo.

Day 3 Today's full day Tana Toraja excursion includes the cliff graves at Lemo, the ancient graves at Londa, Ke'te Kesu traditional village - a World Heritage Site that's famous for its woodcarvings, and the market at Rantepao.

SIX DAY/FIVE NIGHT OPTION

Day 1 Upon arrival at Makassar you'll be met and transferred to Bira beach, at the southeastern part of the peninsula. Along the way you'll stop to visit Tana Beru, the center of south Sulawesi's boat-building industry. Upon arrival at your hotel you'll have time to swim and enjoy the white sand beach.

Day 2 Depart for Sengkang via Sinjai and Camming with a stop to view the slopes of the extinct Mt. Lompobattang volcano. This afternoon you'll take a boat ride on Lake Tempe, to see the floating fishing village. Overnight at Sengkang.

Day 3 Depart for Tana Toraja. Stops along the way include a silk-weaving village, the fishing port at Bay of Bone and Nenggala, a traditional village with its 14 rice barns in front of the two Toraja houses that are the former home of King Nenggala. Arrive at Toraja in the late afternoon.

Day 4 Today's full day Tana Toraja excursion includes the cliff graves at Lemo, the ancient graves at Londa, Ke'te Kesu traditional village, famous for its woodcarvings and the market at Rantepao.

KOMODO - HOME OF THE DRAGONS

Komodo is easily combined with touring on Flores island.

THREE DAY/TWO NIGHT RINCA TRAILS

Day 1 Upon arrival in Labuhan Bajo, Flores, you'll be met and transferred to the harbor where you'll board a motorized boat to Rinca Island. This afternoon you'll go trekking to see Komodo dragons and other wildlife. Overnight on board your board.

Day 2 Early this morning you'll sail to Komodo Island where you'll trek to Banunggulung to see the Komodo dragons. You'll then visit Pink Beach where you'll have time to swim or snorkel. On the way back to Labuhan Bajo, you'll stop at Kalong island to see the bats. Overnight at a hotel in Labuhan Bajo.

Day 3 Time permitting you can visit the local market and Batu Cermin cave, before transferring to the airport.

THREE DAY/TWO NIGHT RINCA ADVENTURE

Day 1 Upon arrival in Labuhan Bajo, Flores, you'll transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon you'll visit the Batu Cermin Cave, Ujung fishing village and the local harbor for sunset. Two nights hotel accommodations.

Day 2 Early this morning transfer to the harbor where you'll board a local motorized boat for your ride to Rinca Island. After viewing the Komodo dragons on Rinca, you'll sail to Komodo Island where you'll trek to Banunggulung to see more dragons. You'll then visit Pink Beach where you'll have time to swim or snorkel, before heading back to Labuhan Bajo.

Day 3 Transfer to the airport.

THREE DAY/TWO NIGHT FROM BIMA

Day 1 Upon arrival in Bima, Flores, you'll transfer directly to Sape harbor where you'll board a wooden boat for your four hour trip to Komodo. Arrive in the late afternoon. Overnight on board your boat.

Day 2 Today's adventure begins with soft trekking to look for a variety of animals, including the famous Komodo dragon. You'll walk to Banuggulung where you'll view the activities of the dragons. Following your trek you'll have time to enjoy the white sand beach or to snorkel, before boarding the boat for your return trip to Sape. Upon arrival you'll travel to Bima where you'll spend the night at a local hotel.

Day 3 Time permitting, you can take a short city tour before transferring to the Bima airport.

FOUR DAY/THREE NIGHT FROM BIMA

Day 1 Upon arrival in Bima, Flores, you'll be met and taken on a tour of the city, including Bima Museum, the traditional hand-weaving village at Raba, a blacksmith village and Bima Harbor. One night accommodation at a hotel in Bima.

Day 2 Transfer to the Sape harbor and set sail for Komodo. The boat trip takes about four hours. Overnight on board your boat.

Day 3 Today's adventure begins with soft trekking to look for a variety of animals, including the famous Komodo dragon. You'll walk to Banuggulung where you'll view the activities of the dragons. Following your trek you'll have time to enjoy the white sand beach or to snorkel, before boarding the boat for your return trip to Sape. Upon arrival you'll travel to Bima where you'll spend the night at a local hotel.

Day 4 Transfer to the Bima airport.



FLORES - COLORED LAKES OF KELIMUTU

Flores is easily combined with the Komodo options listed above.

Day 1 Upon arrival in Maumere, Flores you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in Moni. Stops along the way include a church that's home to a black Madonna.

Day 2 Early this morning you'll depart for Kelimutu. A 1.5 kilometer walk takes to the a viewing spot overlooking the three colored lakes. The waters of Kelimutu's lakes have changed colors over the years. Currently one is blue, one is silver and one is black. This afternoon you'll return to Maumere for a stay at a beach hotel.

Day 3 This morning you'll tour the city of Maumere to observe daily life. You'll visit the local market and a fishing village. This afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the beach.

Day 4 Transfer to the airport.



SUMATRA - LAND OF LEGEND

BOHOROK ORANGUTANS QUICK TRIP

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Bohorok River. Along the way you'll stop at rubber and oil plantations.

Day 2 This morning you'll visit the Bukit Lawang Orangutan rehabilitation station. Start by walking along the riverbank, cross by small canoe and hike up the hill, through the rainforest, to the feeding site. Return to the Medan airport in the late afternoon.

BOHOROK ORANGUTANS WITH TREKKING OPTION #1

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Bohorok River. Along the way you'll stop at rubber and oil plantations. Upon arrival you'll walk along the riverbank, cross by small canoe and hike up the hill, through the rainforest, to the orangutan rehabilitation feeding site.

Day 2 Accompanied by a ranger, you'll go hiking and wildlife viewing in the tropical rainforest around the station. With luck you may observe orangutans, leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, siamang and a variety of exotic birds.

Day 3 This morning you can do some soft trekking at the station before returning to the Medan airport.

BOHOROK ORANGUTANS WITH TREKKING #2

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Bohorok River. Along the way you'll stop at rubber and oil plantations. Upon arrival you'll walk along the riverbank, cross by small canoe and hike up the hill, through the rainforest, to the orangutan rehabilitation feeding site.

Day 2 Accompanied by a ranger, you'll go hiking and wildlife viewing in the tropical rainforest around the station. With luck you may observe orangutans, leaf monkeys, macaques, gibbons, siamang and a variety of exotic birds.

Day 3 Continue trekking in the Bohorok area. You also have the option of returning to the orangutan feeding site. Or, just relax near the shores of the river and observe village life and local children inner tubing on the river.

Day 4 This morning you can do some soft trekking at the station, before returning to the Medan airport.

LAKE TOBA QUICK TRIP

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Lake Toba, traveling past rubber, oil, cacoa plantations and rice terraces. Arrive in Parapet for an overnight stay on the shores of Lake Toba.

Day 2 Travel by boat to Samosir, an island in the middle of the lake. Upon arrival you'll visit the Tomb of King Sidabutar and Batak Toba village at Tomok. Continue to Ambarita, a traditional village with ancient megalithic furniture in front of the traditional houses. Visit the village of Simanindo to see a performance of folk dances, performed by the Batak Toba people.

Day 3 Return to Medan airport.

LAKE TOBA AND BRASTAGI

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Lake Toba, traveling past rubber, oil, cacoa plantations and rice terraces. Arrive in Parapet for an overnight stay on the shores of Lake Toba.

Day 2 Travel by boat to Samosir, an island in the middle of the lake. Upon arrival you'll visit the Tomb of King Sidabutar and Batak Toba village at Tomok. Continue to Ambarita, a traditional village with ancient megalithic furniture in front of the traditional houses. Visit the village of Simanindo to see a performance of folk dances, performed by the Batak Toba people.

Day 3 Travel to Brastagi via the Ring Road of Lake Toba. You'll see the slender Sipiso-piso Waterfall, the ancient King's Palace of Simalungun at Pematang Purba and the vegetable and fruit farms and pine forest. During your stay in Brastagi you'll visit the local fruit market and the traditional Batak Karo village of Pecaran.

Day 4 Return to Medan following a drive through part of the lush Sumatran rainforest. Time permitting you'll take a city tour before transferring to the airport.

BOHOROK ORANGUTANS + LAKE TOBA

This itinerary can easily be reversed, visiting Lake Toba first.

Day 1 Transfer from Medan airport to Bohorok River. Along the way you'll stop at rubber and oil plantations.

Day 2 This morning you'll visit the Bukit Lawang Orangutan rehabilitation station. Start by walking along the riverbank, cross by small canoe and hike up the hill, through the rainforest, to the feeding site. In the afternoon travel to Brastagi, a highland resort with cooler weather and mountain scenery. On arrival you'll visit Peceran, a village with traditional houses. You'll also visit the Brastagi fruit market.

Day 3 Depart for Parapat, a lake resort on the shores of Lake Toba. You'll see the slender Sipiso-piso Waterfall, the ancient King's Palace of Simalungun at Pematang Purba and the vegetable and fruit farms and pine forest of Lake Toba. You'll then travel by boat to Samosir, an island in the middle of the lake. Upon arrival you'll visit the Tomb of King Sidabutar and Batak Toba village at Tomok. Continue to Ambarita, a traditional village with ancient megalithic furniture in front of the traditional houses. Overnight on the island.

Day 4 Return to Parapat by boat and drive through the towns of Pematang Siantar and Tebing Tinggi, past rubber, oil, cacao plantations and rice terraces to Medan. Time permitting, you'll have a tour of the city before returning to the airport.



LOMBOK - BALI'S SERENE NEIGHBOR


Dive extensions to the Gili Islands are easily combined with Lombok.

LOMBOK QUICK TRIP

Day 1 Upon arrival at the Lombok airport or pier you'll be met and taken on a half day city tour including 18th century structures: Royal Floating Palace, Pura Meru Temple, Summer Palace of King Anak Agung Gede Ngurah and Lingsar Temple, the oldest temple in Lombok. Built in 1714, Lingsar is used by both Hindus and Muslims. You'll also visit Bertais Market.

Day 2 Today's full day excursion starts with a stop at Lendang Bajur market. You'll then travel through the mountainous interior of the island through Pusuk Pass, where monkeys play along the side of the road. Arrive at Bangsal Harbor where you'll board the boat that will take you to Gili Air. This flat island is fringed with dazzling white sand beaches and coral reefs, with the volanoes of Lombok in the background. Spend the day sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling or diving, before returning to Lombok in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Transfer to the Lombok airport or pier.

LOMBOK IN DEPTH

Day 2 Today's full day excursion takes you to the three Gili Islands. Begin with a boat crossing to Gili Trawangan, known for its fabulous snorkeling. Continue to the blue coral island Gili Meno. The last stop is Gili Air with its excellent snorkeling and an interesting fishing settlement. Return to Lombok in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Today's countryside tour takes you to villages known for bamboo furniture-making and Karang Bayan and Nyiur Baya, villages known for unusual artifacts made from "mountain weed." You'll also visit the preserved forest at Suranadi, located deep in the interior of the island.

Day 4 Today's excursion takes you to northern Lombok. Pass through mountainous rain forests and stop at Pusuk Monkey Forest. Continue to Sendang Gile Waterfall and Senaru village. Descend to the valley where you'll visit the sacred grave of King Selaparang and the grave of Maha Patih Gajah Mada, a unifying hero of the archipelago. The last stop of the day is at Lemor, a forest reserve

Day 5 Today's Sasak Traditional Village tour includes Banyumulek, one of the many pottery villages in Lombok, Sukarara village, where traditional Songket cloth is handwoven with gold and silver thread, Rambitan, a typical Sasak village where the houses and storage buildings are still constructed with wood, bamboo and thatched roofing. Continue to Kuta Beach and Tanjung Ann on the southern coast of Lombok. You'll have time to swim, surf or windsurf before returning to your hotel.

Day 6 Transfer to the Lombok airport or pier.

MT. RINJANI VOLCANO CLIMB & CAMPING

Day 1 Early this morning depart for Mt. Rinjani. You'll drive through a mountainous area with villages and rice fields to Senaru village. From there you'll begin your trek through the jungle to Base Camp III. Lunch is en route. Dinner is at the Camp.

Day 2 After breakfast you'll begin your trek up to Pelawangan, which is 3,000 meters above sea level. From Pelawangan you'll have a spectacular view overlooking Lombok. Continue down to Segara Anak Lake, with its volcano in the middle. Relax by the lake or bathe in the hot springs waters. Lunch, dinner and overnight camping will be by the lake.

Day 3 After breakfast you'll walk back up to Pelawangan and then back down to Senaru village. From there you'll be transferred to your choice of hotel or to the Lombok airport.

MT. RINJANI SUMMIT CLIMB (This program is for advanced trekkers)

Day 1 Eary this morning depart for Mt. Rinjani. The trek begins at Sembalun Lawang with a gentle ascent through grasslands. The climb grows steeper as you reach Pemantauan and laster Tengengean. After climbing through an area of pine forests, with the possibility of seeing wild pigs and monkeys, you'll reach the camp site at Plawangan II Sembalun crater rim. You'll have climbed almost 1,500 meters today. Lunch is en route. Dinner is at the Camp.

Day 2 Head out at 3:00am for the three hour climb to the summit, almost 1,100 meters uphill from the camp. The view from the top overlooks the Wallace Line to Bali, Mt. Agung and the island of Sumbawa. Continue trekking down to Lake Segara Anak, located within the Rinjani crater. You'll see Mt. Baru, an island in the lake and an active volcano. Continue down the ridge to the crater rim camp for breakfast, after which you'll head down a steep trail for two to three hours, until you reach the crater lake, where you can swim, explore caves and visit pilgrimage hot springs, which are believed to have healing powers. After lunch en route you'll climb to Plawangan 1 Senaru Crater Rim where you'll have dinner and camp overnight. Or, if the weather permits, you can continue to Cemara Lima.

Day 3 After breakfast descend the long trail to Senaru village, through thick forests that are home to a variety of flora, bird life and butterflies. You might see wild orchids and a rare monkey known as lutung. A box lunch is included en route. Arrive at Senaru five to seven hours after heading out. Transfer to your next destination.



JAVA - HEART OF INDONESIA

OVERLAND CENTRAL JAVA TO BALI OPTION #1

Overland to Bali is easily combined with Baluran National Park.

Day 1 Upon arrival at the Yogyakarta airport you'll be met and transferred to your hotel, following a tour of the Sultan's Palace, a traditional batik home-industry center and the Water Castle.

Day 2 Very early this morning you'll travel to Borobudur where you'll arrive in time to see the sunrise. Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. You'll have time to tour the site before continuing to Prambanan temple.

Day 3 This morning you'll travel overland to Mt. Bromo, with a stop at Trowulan, home to an archaeological site and museum with relics from the Majapahit Kingdom.

Day 4 Early this morning you'll take a short drive to Petigen in time to see the sunrise over Mt. Bromo. Continue via jeep and horseback to the foot of the volcano, where you'll climb to the top for a look into the steaming crater. After coming down from Mt. Bromo you'll travel to Kalibaru for an overnight stay.

Day 5 This morning you'll visit a local plantation before traveling to the east Java harbor where you'll board the ferry to Bali. Upon arrival you'll be met and transferred to your Bali hotel.

GEM OF JAVA - YOGYAKARTA & COUNTRYSIDE

This afternoon's Yogyakarta city tour includes the Sultan's Palace, the bird market at Ngasem, Water Castle, a traditional batik home-industry center and Kotagede, the original silverworks center of Yogyakarta.

Day 3 Today you'll visit Prambanan, the Hindu temple at Sambisari. Continue to Kalasan, Sari and Plaosan temples. From Banyunibo temple you'll be able to see the ruined palace of Ratu Boko. This evening you'll attend an Indonesia buffet dinner and Ramayana Ballet performance.

Day 4 Today's excursion takes you a distance from Yogyakarta to the Dieng Plateau. You'll drive through an area of dramatic scenery, passing tea and tobacco plantations of the Sindoro-Sumbing valley. You'll visit Java's oldest Hindu temples, dating from the 9th century. You'll then see the active volcanic craters of the Plateau and take in the beauty of the Warna (colored) and Pengilon (mirror) lakes.

Day 5 Transfer to the Yogyakarta airport OR extend your trip by one day with a visit to Yogyakarta's sister city of Solo. The Solo City excursion includes the 14th century Sukuh Temple, the 14th century mountain temple at Cetho and Sangiran, where fossilized remains of Java Man were found. You'll visit the museum with its display of fossilized Stegdon tusks and teeth, as well as the excavation site. Transfer to the Solo airport or return to Yogyakarta.

BALURAN NATIONAL PARK EAST JAVA - OVERNIGHT FROM BALI

Day 1 Transfer from anywhere in Bali to Gilimanuk Harbor for the ferry from Bali to Java. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes later at Ketapang Harbor. After registering at the National Park office, you'll visit the Park to look for a variety of animals. The best time to see wildlife this afternoon will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Overnight in a very basic, rustic accommodation at the Park, or an eco lodge on the edge of the Park.

Day 2 This morning is the optimum time to see birds and other animals. There's a possibility of seeing deer, peacocks, monkeys, black monkeys and numerous small birds. You'll visit an observation site in the Park, with a panoramic view over the savannah, before returning to Ketapang Harbor for the crossing back to Bali.

BALURAN NATIONAL PARK EAST JAVA - DAY TRIP FROM BALI

Day 1 Transfer from Pemuteran in northern Bali to Gilimanuk Harbor for the ferry from Bali to Java. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes later at Ketapang Harbor. After registering at the National Park office, you'll visit the Park to look for a variety of animals. From 7:00am to 9:00am or 4:00pm to 6:00pm are the optimum times to see birds and other animals. There's a possibility of seeing deer, peacocks, monkeys, black monkeys and numerous small birds. You'll visit an observation site in the Park, with a panoramic view over the savannah, before returning to Ketapang Harbor for the crossing back to Bali.

BALURAN NATIONAL PARK - FROM SURABAYA

Day 1 Transfer from Surabaya to Baluran following a stop at Trowulan Museum and temple. The travel time to Baluran is approximately seven hours. Upon arrival you'll check-in at an eco-lodge located just outside the Park.

Day 2 Early in the morning you'll enter the Park via 4-wheel drive safari car. Fauna that you might see in the Park include peacocks, green peafowl, jungle fowl, macaques, squirrels, Javanese wild ox, banten (wild cattle), deer, monitor lizards and langurs (a type of monkey). Travel through the evergreen forest, visit Bekol observation tower and Bama Beach, where macques come out of the trees to look for food.

Day 3 Transfer back to Surabaya, or take the ferry to Bali.

MT. BROMO & MT. IJEN QUICK TRIP

Day 1 Transfer from the Surabaya airport to Mt. Bromo, following a stop at Trowulan, home to an archaeological site and musuem with relics from the Majapahit Kingdom.

Day 2 Early this morning you'll take a short drive to Petigen in time to see the sunrise over Mt. Bromo. Continue via jeep and horseback to the foot of the volcano, where you'll climb to the top for a look into the steaming crater. After coming down from Mt. Bromo After coming down from Mt. Bromo you'll travel to Kalibaru for an overnight stay.

Day 3 This morning you'll visit a local plantation before traveling to Ijen for a one night stay.

Day 4 This morning you'll travel by jeep to Mt. Ijen with its turquoise colored crater lake. (Depending upon the alert status at the time of your visit, you may not be able to get close to the crater.) This afternoon transfer to the east Java harbor for your ferry to Bali.

MT. BROMO & MT. IJEN FROM BALI

This excursion can be shortened by a night or two. Or, it can be combined with Baluran National Park.

Day 1 This morning you'll take the ferry from Gilimanuk harbor to Ketapang, east Java. Upon arrival you'll transfer to Ijen.

Day 2 This morning you'll travel by jeep to Mt. Ijen with its turquoise colored crater lake. (Depending upon the alert status at the time of your visit, you may not be able to get close to the crater.)

Day 3 Travel to Mt. Bromo, following a stop at Banyuwangi. Your city tour includes a becak (tuk-tuk) ride and visits to the Chinese temple and the traditional market.

Day 4 Early this morning you'll take a short drive to Petigen in time to see the sunrise over Mt. Bromo. Continue via jeep and horseback to the foot of the volcano, where you'll climb to the top for a look into the steaming crater. After coming down from Mt. Bromo you'll take a walking tour of the local village.

Day 5 This afternoon you'll travel to Kalibaru for an overnight stay.

Day 6 This morning you'll tour a local plantation before continuing to the harbor for your ferry crossing back to Bali.



WEST PAPUA - TRIBAL LANDS

BALIEM VALLEY OVERVIEW

Day 1 Following a short flight from Jayapura airport to Wamena, transfer to Baliem Valley for a three night stay. This afternoon you'll visit the local market and the hanging bridge in Sinakma.

Day 2 This morning you'll drive to Jiwika, followed by a walk to the salt-water spring on the mountain. Local Dani women will demonstrate their traditional salt-making process. Following lunch at Kurulu village you'll visit the mummy at Sopahima, as well as typical Dani villages.

Day 3 Today you'll attend the full day Pig Festival in a local Dani village.

Day 4 Transfer to the Wamena airport for your short flight to Jayapura. This afternoon's city tour includes Sentani Lake, Hamadi local market and the Anthropological Musem (subject to its being open). Overnight in Jayapura.

Day 5 Transfer to the airport.

BALIEM VALLEY TRIBES AND TREKKING

Day 1 Following a short flight from Jayapura airport to Wamena, transfer to Baliem Valley for a five night stay. This afternoon you'll visit the local market and the hanging bridge in Sinakma.

Day 2 Today you'll drive to the southern Baliem Valley for a walking tour from Sogogmo village to Kurima. You'll cross a suspension bridge over the Baliem River before continuing through Dani settlements, terraced fields and wild sugar cane groves. Continue to the church of Seinma and over another suspension bridge to Kurima, before returning to your hotel via safari bus.

Day 3 This morning you'll drive to Jiwika, followed by a walk to the salt-water spring on the mountain. Local Dani women will demonstrate their traditional salt-making process. Following lunch at Kurulu village you'll visit the mummy at Sopahima, as well as typical Dani villages.

Day 4 Today you'll tour Jiwika and Kurulu in the northern Baliem Valley. Visit Kotilola Cave, the market of Uwosilomo and continue up the mountain to the Pass Valley where you'll explore the mountain forest. Before returning to your hotel, you'll visit Meagaima hamlet to see the mummy of a Dani chief.

Day 5 Today you'll attend the full day Pig Festival in a local Dani village.

Day 6 Transfer to the Wamena airport for your short flight to Jayapura. This afternoon's city tour includes Sentani Lake, Hamadi local market and the Anthropological Musem (subject to its being open). Overnight in Jayapura.

BALIEM VALLEY IN DEPTH

Day 1 Following a short flight from Jayapura airport to Wamena, transfer to Baliem Valley for a six night stay. This afternoon you'll visit the local market and the hanging bridge in Sinakma.

Day 4 Today you'll visit the native market in Wamena before driving along the western side of the valley. The landscape in the west is different than the rest of the valley. It's dominated by grass savannas and giant acacia trees. After short stops at the traditional markets at Elagaima and Kimbim, drive up to the Magi Mountain in the Pyramid region (subject to weather and road conditions). The settlement of Pyramid, in the northern Baliem Valley, was one of the first missionary stations in the early 1950s.

Day 5 Today you'll take the safari bus to the Assologaima region where you'll transfer to a specially designed raft for a river excursion. As you head downstream you'll see Dani hamlet, where you can observe local life. After reaching the suspension bridge of Wesaput, you'll return to your hotel via safari bus.

Day 6 Today's Wamena city tour starts with a visit to the largest traditional market, where hundreds of Dani sell and barter their products. Traditional arts and crafts are for sale. Continue to the local market near the Wamena Bridge and then on to the water power station at the upper course of the Wamena River. Cross the Wesaput suspension bridge to reach Dani hamlets on the other side. You'll have time to shop in Wamena before returning to your hotel.

Day 7 Transfer to the Wamena airport for your short flight to Jayapura. This afternoon's city tour includes Sentani Lake, Hamadi local market and the Anthropological Musem (subject to its being open). Overnight in Jayapura.

Day 8 Transfer to the Jayapura airport.
